OOM ORIGIN

Founded in 2025 under the creative direction of Naato, an architectural designer based in Providence, RI USA. The Oom produces all products in Naato's hometown, Dalat, a cool, misty highland city in Vietnam, where pine forests and slow mountain air shape the calm, quiet rhythm behind OOM.

The Oom is a laboratory with the vision of designing interiors that create connections in space. This perspective originated from observing Vietnamese people's ‘indirect hugsʼ, a form of connection through presence and caring gestures.

OOM = ÔM = A HUG

The Oom is specialized in creating objects that donʼt just sit in space but respond to it. They explore forms that changes and adapt as the objects being used, creating phenomena that static furniture can not. This makes adaptability and flexibility become the core principle of design at The Oom. Each piece is made to be easily repaired, reused, and repurposed.

The Oom believes that truly good design doesn’t try to be eternal. It stays alive by staying adaptable.

OOM MATERIALS

The Oom chooses Laminated Veneer to be the leading material for our furniture pieces because of its inherit sustainable characteristics. The process of slicing logs into thin sheets is highly efficient, using over 98% of the tree. Meanwhile, solid wood sawn from logs creates much more waste in the form of sawdust and offcuts.

And by laminating the veneer layers with the right orientation, we can significantly increase the strength of the plywood compared to solid wood at the same thickness.
